HOLLA! was founded in 2005 to support education in the Anson County School System. Inspired by these words of Frederick Douglass, “It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men,” the organization strives without ceasing to level the playing field for the underprivileged and disenfranchised.
Realizing that mentoring and tutoring were not quite enough, the founders of the organization sacrificed personal funds to purchase a former hardware store in the rural town of Morven, NC to better serve the community. Thanks to a grant from The Golden Leaf Foundation, they were able to convert the rugged 1920’s structure into a modernized resource center, complete with a commercial kitchen, cafe’, media center, activity rooms, and office spaces. On the outside, the building has a regulation tennis court – the home of The HOLLA! Eagles Tennis Team.
The facility offers free, phone, fax, and other services to the local community. It also hosts mentoring, tutoring, summer camps, after-school, cultural, and many other community events and meetings.
Through partnerships with the local school system, other non-profits, programs, and resources, HOLLA! continuously strives to build strong children.
Through a recent grant from Disney, the organization wowed audiences and motivated the student cast to appreciate The Arts with an inspiring production of The Lion King Jr.
In a humanitarian quest for culture, HOLLA! Africa has been developed. Through HOLLA! Africa, the organization has adopted an orphanage in Liberia, which offers an exchange of culture and resources with local students and children on the African continent.
