Programs

Little Miss HOLLA! 
Youth enrichment program for girls ages 6-13.  Contestants participate in community service, a team building dance routine, learn etiquette and poise, develop their self-confidence and become knowledgeable about famous women throughout history.  The 6-month long program ends with a pageant to demonstrate their new skills. This pageant is also a fundraiser for the organization’s endeavors. 

Read and Reel Summer Camp
Four week camp for children ages 6-13.  Focuses on literacy through various planned activities such as reading and writing workshops, guest speakers, and field trips.  Movies are shown that assist with a group discussion of the themes focused upon throughout the weeks.

5K Walk/Run Into the Freedom of Literacy
Fundraiser for HOLLA! to bring awareness to the amazing world of literacy and support projects that deal with this platform.  Prizes are awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place participants.

Reading Challenge 
A challenge between the elementary schools of Anson County. Top readers in each participating school’s Advanced Reading program are recognized and rewarded.  The school with the most books read is also recognized and receives a donation of books to its’ library. Schools are encouraged to participate in HOLLA!’s annual 5K.

HOLLA!/YCC Mentoring Program
Collaboration between HOLLA! and Anson High School’s Youth Career Connect (YCC).  YCC is a President Obama initiative. It provides exposure to different professions, mentoring, and internships to 9th-12th-grade students. HOLLA! contributes by recruiting professionals, and providing meeting space for the YCC Motivational/Mentoring Events.

 

Scholarships:  Mary E Little,  and M R Bell Excellence in Achievement
Named for two influential members of Anson County:  one a teacher and the other a founding member of HOLLA!. Each scholarship is in the amount of $500. They are awarded to Anson High School’s college-bound seniors.  Seniors are selected by their grades, community involvement, volunteerism, and future goals.

Collegiate Cookout
Celebration for college-bound seniors.  Seniors receive dorm and school supplies donated by local businesses. Additionally, high school juniors are provided with information about financial aid, and North Carolina’s colleges and universities.

HOLLA! Eagles Tennis Team
The team includes children and teens.  They compete throughout NC, in Charleston, SC, and Ft. Lauderdale, FL.  The overall goal is to teach and improve the skills of its’ members while instilling discipline on and off the court.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Activities:
$1,000 is funded by the NC DOA for MLK Jr. Commission.  This funding supports HOLLA!’S activities that commemorate one of America’s most powerful figures during the Civil Rights Movement.  The following are examples of HOLLA!’s MLK pursuits: Essay Contest and Workshop-HOLLA! and Las Amigas Collaboration, MLK Celebration, Film Showing, Cultural Event
